After listening to the concerns raised in the past few weeks and considering their own views on the state of the air division, the TxR leadership has decided to take action and make some pretty sweeping changes. I've volunteered to head up the organization of these changes because I love the air squadron and want to see it become robust and successful. Talron and I have discussed the situation and has given me permission to make a series of sweeping changes.
First off, I want to thank ATRGeist for taking this far as CO. Leading is an often thankless and discouraging job and he gave us a lot of his time and effort to make our gaming experience more fun. Personally, I consider him to be an invaluable asset to the air squadron with regards to his flying and his knowledge of this game. It is my hope to continue to make use of his ability as often as he is able to lend us a hand.
Moving Forward:
In the coming days, we are going to be busy rebuilding the air squadron from the ground up. I'm going to ask for a lot of input from current members and will be counting on several of you to step up into some leadership positions. I cannot always be on to lead the group; we need some guys to step up and volunteer to organize ops on nights when RL has to come first.
I want to address problems with our organization, recruitment, requirements, primary mission, and a host of smaller details. I am going to remove as many of the barriers to entry as possible and get the squadron doing things that make sense in the current build of the game.
Overview of plans:
I will be making posts to cover details and get feedback on each idea, but briefly my areas of focus will be:
- Organization: Leadership structure, requirements for membership, renaming the squadron (if desired)
- Recruitment: Institute active recruiting of pilots with a presence on third party community sites such as the PS2 forums, PSU, reddit, and any other place where potential recruits might hang out
- Primary mission: Refocus from an air superiority mission to a ground attack mission
- Training opportunities: Voluntary, but regular training will be held (night(s) TBD) to give a sense of stability and an opportunity for members to learn in an environment focused on teaching and honing specific skills.
- Esprit de corps: A number of small ideas to increase our sense of unit pride and maybe enhance the fun we have here.
---------------
As I see it, my job as leader is to do some work to make sure you guys can have more fun. Providing a way for our pilots to come together and defeat our organized opposition is my sole focus. My focus is entirely on enabling you guys to succeed and enjoy yourselves.
To do that I am going to need your help. I have real life obligations that keep me out of the game more often than would be ideal. I am going to need several of you guys to step up to offer to lead when I cannot be online. Even that, I am going to make as easy to do as possible by setting up our doctrines ahead of time and making sure people know what to do when they log in for an op.
This is not my air squadron. This is YOUR air squadron. I can do all the organizing and planning and preparing, but ultimately it is up to you guys to make these ideas succeed. If you are having fun, you will likely show up. If it is work, or boring, our attendance will suffer. The only players I've known who log into a game to work already play Eve. As such I am going to be asking for a considerable amount of your input. I want the air squadron to become something you guys are aching to participate in every week.
As I said, look to the forums in the coming days and give me your input and feedback. Those of you who have voiced your concerns in the past few days or weeks, I am going to be looking at you guys to step up and help. I've heard a lot of good ideas and I will be listening for more.
