It's pretty obvious that I have some issues with the "Combat" portion of the Medic class. I mean, I can get to people from across a battlefield for a res, and I frequently support entire pushes -sometimes it's even enough to turn the tide of a battle -but it feels like I'm almost entirely ignoring the part where I'm supposed to shoot people's faces off.
I guess I should get to my point: I'm looking for tips and tools to improve my combat technique while still allowing me to keep my focus on my job. Some of you are very aware of how I run, so I'm hoping for not only input from fellow medics, but also from the people I'm supposed to be healing. Here's a layout to help you help me help TR. Don't bother reading all of it, as I'm certain you can guess where I need improvement from any one of these headers, but I know that with more information you can make a better judgement, so I'm putting it all here.
Description of Playstyle:
Generally, if I'm in a position where I have my weapon drawnI can be certain that one of three things is about to happen. 1) I'm about to die. 2) I'm about to TK someone whom I can't see yet. 3) Miraculously, no one is shooting at me, and I can advance. Sometimes I like to do the Rambo gig, especially if I'm foot-zergging less than 700m, but I'm usually with the group(refer to the phrase, "Dead TR don't shoot"). I'm a support guy, and it's not just here. I play the healy-whore in every game it's been an option in, from D&D to Borderlands and beyond. Still, it'd be nice to not walk into a room, res 5 people, and immediately get my ass handed to me on a platter made of my spine. I've noted it before, my courage needs tempering, but I'm at a loss as how best to do that without simply grinding away and following the old college adage, "Fake it 'til you make it."
High points:
I'm noticing that I can be really good at getting behind the enemy advance, and sticking close for full-time support is never a problem. My 'nades have gotten increasingly accurate in facilities. When I do shoot at someone, I get assists all day long, but few kills. I've also gotten better about picking my corpses, but that needs work still.
Low points:
Hitting with enough shots to kill before I get blasted. The charge - I end up running balls deep into a room for a few reses, and get popped while during the switch to primary weapon. Battlefield awareness: Overall low. I have a bit of a one track mind. "If I can get these guys up, they can shoot and kill. Whereas when I shoot first and die, we're all dead and I've helped no one but the enemy." Aiming. I'm usually off, and still getting a hold on the whole strafe-while-firing gig. Gets me killed more often than standing my ground and firing away.
Mitigating factors:
-Low FPS/lag
This one gets me all the time. Run in for a res, everything's cool, get almost done, and then the room is magically full of enemies who want to eat my heart.
-settings
I'm still trying to optimize my graphics/bindings/sensitivity, and frequently the changes shift my whole game. Should I focus on fixing one at a time?
-Squad/Platoon Commands
I follow them. Sometimes doing so gets me killed or stranded when I'm the only one who does so (Generally this is more of a pubby problem) I realize that warfare in this game is chaotic hell, and I love that, but it seems that sometimes Zerg orders are the only ones worth following.
Anything you have will help. I can take whatever criticism/commentary you have.
Respectfully,
DocFry
