So, Deltagramps and I caught a show in Portland last night. Dark Tranquility, featuring Omnium Gatherum and Exmortus. Opening were two local bands, one of note, Terraclipse, and one that forgot for their entire set to mention who they were. You'll have to forgive the quality of the photos, it was dark and they move oh so quickly.

I have to give it up to TSilver: I hadn't been to a concert in 8 years. He turned me on to Omnium Gatherum just a few months ago, and suddenly they were coming to Portland. TSilver hooked me up with a ticket. (Good grief, what's wrong with me? Turned me on? Hooked me up? Am I in love?). I bought a spare ticket for my wife (Kotsee) and took a day and a half off of work (I knew I would need a day to recover). Anyway, this was the lineup: Terraclipse - local sci-fi themed progressive metal. They had a lot of fun up there. Southgate - local hardcore band. I enjoyed this quite a lot, though TSilver can't be bothered to remember their name Exmortus - California based technical death metal. These guys were really talented! Omnium Gatherum - Melodic death metal from Finland. The reason we were there. If the "death metal" thing seems like 'no way, no how' to you, I suggest you listen to Omnium Gatherum. It's just epic, melodic metal melded with perfect harsh vocals. They seemed like regular guys, except very good at their craft. Dark Tranquility - Melodic death metal from Sweden. These guys pretty much created the sound. They were very professional, and seemed very happy to be playing. Hanging out with TSilver and his buddy Brad was a blast. Turns out we had more in common than music and Total Recoil: we're also a bunch of D&D nerds. We certainly never ran out of things to talk about! I also appreciated that Brad stayed back with Kotsee when TSilver and I had to go up to the front and head bang to Omnium Gatherum. I got overexcited and threw myself into the mosh once. As soon as I cycled back around towards TSilver he decisively pulled me out by the arm. This was probably for the best. Kotsee said she wasn't going anywhere near the moshing: she feared a headline in the newspaper that ran "Grandma Breaks Arm in Mosh Pit: No One Surprised". So with that, I will confirm that our daughter is turning us into grandparents in August, 2014. I don't even know how these things happen! Okay, I do know. In any case, I'm pretty excited: I just don't think the title fits all that well. I mean, who wants to sleep with grandma?

So that's why he's calling you delta-gramps now and I thought Dr.McGram was clever
