Notice how he doesn't stick his face up next to the window to look out. He's not only taking only the real estate he can control, but he's minimizing his exposure. Windows are great cover as long as your body doesn't completely fill the window. Shooting a target THROUGH a window is difficult (smaller target that even rounds that make it through the window can still miss). Shooting a target IN a window is easy, it is only a matter of getting shots in the window and you can be sure every shot hits.
This is important to remember for doors, too. If you are defending stay back from the doors. Let the enemy come to you. When you step into a door way you are now in the choke point and at a disadvantage.
