Wish this had the option to vote for multiple options. Either way, I liked your idea from an earlier post outlining a military wing and a trader wing. Both wings would benefit the other in the trader side would allow for parts and supplies where the military wing would provide escort support for the trade vessels. Also, in the new Jump Point issue that came out today, the highlight was on the Freelancer and MISC in general. It seems that Starfarers will be able to not only collect fuel from gas giants, but refine it and use it to refuel other ships as well. I might end up doing a summary on this article at a later date, but i have 2 papers at 2 pages each due on Tuesday. It was a good article and gave some insight to the 2 designs we know from MISC.
Personally, I feel I would like to be able to go both ways with the militaristic mercenary/bounty hunter role and the trader/exploration/mining role. I have the ships and character slots to keep those 2 roles separate. I think, especially by the time that game time comes around, that we'll be able to support both of these roles. I know that I'll be going for a Starfarer from the start.

I'm with Hereticus on this one. I think I would prefer to go pirate and just take what we want when we want. Ambushing supply trains and depots would probably be super fun. Strike fast, hard, and silent...We would just be a shadow of a passing asteroid. I would also probably like to get into exploring as well. Pirating and exploring seem like they would go hand in hand IMO, I'm honestly down for whatever though. I just think pirating would be fun because the whole "protect the weak and innocent" thing can be kinda boring. I think TxR should let loose and become the terror of the universe

I think TxR should let loose and become the terror of the universe I don't think one necessarily precludes the other. We could carve our own little system/sector out, replete with resources for our industrial players, and protect it viciously with patrols. Further, we could mount raids into neighboring areas

I'm not big for territory grab, Stealth around, steal what I want, stealth away, No borders for me, I go where I want!
Totally going to sell loot to our Industrial players though

I completely agree Mr.Hereticus! I can also see the benefits of having a base of operations, but we can let the corporate big wigs deal with that. I prefer to roam while raping and pillaging. Staying in one location creates an opportunity for enemy ambushes. This is all hypothetical anyway though, we have no idea how game mechanics and territory control may work in depth.

I think this might be a reason why we need to have one giant guild. Why? Take it from this perspective. If we have one giant guild, we can cover all the bases. The pirate faction can have their own wing and actually support the other factions by eliminating/suppressing competition and keeping prices on goods high to increase the profits of the other factions. However, the pirate faction would look more like an alliance since it would most likely have to be its own organization to keep its standing in the UEE from affecting the more "legitimate" wings of the greater organization. See where I'm going with this? If we have people that are fine upstanding citizens, we'll have access to parts, weapons, etc that are of higher quality and that are only available to citizens of the UEE. Yes, it's been confirmed that citizens will have access to things non-citizen won't. Also goes the other way around. Pirates will have access to things the upstanding citizens won't in order to support their shady lifestyle (ie - fake ship IDs, false identities, scan blocking equipment, etc).

Yeah, but here is the issue I think we might run into. Since we don't know how it will work. Lets just say our pirates are off doing there shit and piss off a corp that our traders view as very valuable customers or whatever. And thus they declare war on us and it goes from there. If we have any wings running under the TXR flag pirate, trader, military, whatever you are..... one branch is going to fuck you up in some way.

That's why a pirate wing needs to be a separate organization under a different name. It would be retarded if we had a "legitimate" organization with the same or similar name as the pirate counterpart.

Hell, we could have skirmishes between the military and pirate groups that, masqueraded as escort missions, are really just training ops.
