I'm about to go find out for myself, but I'm posting this on the way out the door.
I have yet to hear anyone say "meh, it was okay". It's either "worse than a punch in the dick" or "awesome, you'll love it".
What I *have* heard is that I should turn off the part of my brain that remembers the book, which I read when it was new a couple years back. So that is my plan. I was also told that the all-star audio book is the best way to experience the franchise....

So, it wasn't very hard to pretend the movie had nothing to do with the book. I recognized two or three book references. So, yeah, not like the book. I felt that the move was alright. I loved at least one scene, and loathed another.
Without spoiling it for others, I loved the parts that take place on Belarus airlines. HOLY SMOKES!
I loathed a scene toward the end where Brad walks tensely then more relaxed. Oh, how profound.
If you haven't read the book, or listened to the audio-book, this movie can work for you. Maybe. It was also a little odd to see a zombie movie in the theater on the big screen, and find that The Walking Dead TV show is far more graphic. And it's a *ZOMBIE* movie. But not very graphic (rated PG-13).

I thought it was terrible. But terrible in a genre-specific way. I'd definitely want to see this again more than I would ever want to see a Kathryn Heigl rom-com or a Dinesh D'souza documentary.

As a horror film, not good. As a Thriller Movie that just happened to have zombies in it, not bad, although the ending was a big let down for me, but what I did really like about the film was the physicality and sheer weight of numbers that the zombies had.
(From someone who hasn't read the book)

THE ENDING WAS SO DISAPPOINTING. I could tell they ran out of time/ideas with the COMPLETELY UNORIGINAL and most cliche ending ever.
Contagion was a better better infection movie. Go watch that.
