I'm working on getting my joystick running for this game. Having a few issues with sensitivity, so I'm going to be compiling as much info as possible here. Currently I've seen a nice increase in responsiveness, but I'm having trouble tweaking the dead zones and sensitivity to get fine adjustment. Currently it is very hard to make fine corrections to my aim and the nose swings wildly in the direction of movement. I want to apply the adjustments in this video but I haven't had a chance to try them, yet. Hopefully that will solve my problems. If anyone else has stumbled onto solutions, post them here.

What joystick do you use? I seem to run into issues when I plug my Logitech in.

Cyborg Fly 5. It's Saitek/madcatz. Not a bad joystick, but certainly not the old sidewinder Precision Pro 2.
I spent hours trying to get a card with a gameport to work in windows 7. Did not happen.
I abandoned trying to use the joystick. It was really nice for agility, the fine control is awful due to force dead zones. I was having to adjust the .ini to get sensitivity and deadzones even lower than the game setup allows. Very frustrating. It also seems as if the X and Y axis have two different sensitivities. You can pitch MUCH faster than you can roll. It makes using the joystick extremely difficult.
Maybe one of these days they'll give us some better values for joystick settings (more range of adjustment for dead zones and independent x/y sensitivities).

I spent awhile this weekend messing with joystick settings. I'm a little handicapped in that I started gaming on flight sims and when I'm flying, I want to use a joystick. Some good info in the video linked to above, but it appears that if you drop the sensitivity below 1.000000 or so, you actually can't get full pitch/roll rate. Down at 0.500000, you can hardly maneuver at all. Basically, if you lower JoystickSensitivity to where you can make small adjustments well (to line up shots), you lose something of the top end.
However, I also started playing with the Logitech Profiler again. The sensitivity setting there didn't make a difference at all in beta and I hadn't messed with it since. It works now and I'm pretty comfortable with those values at about 30% and the game values near their lowest in-game settings (JoystickSensitivity was at 1.000000, but I'm about to restart at 1.050000 and adjust it again in the profiler if needed).
Btw, I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Lots of gaming goodness for twenty bucks. I've been thinking that it needed one more button for switching quickly to the map, but just realized that I've been ignoring the hat...
I'm still messing with the in-game deadzone settings a little.

Hmmmm...$20.00 you say? Might be worth it to drop the Saitek...their quality leaves something be desired.
Some of my first games were flight sims; Falcon, Wings of the Luftwaffe, B-17 Flying Fortress, Star Lancer. IL-2, later of course. One of my proudest gaming moments was in IL-2; coming home from a mission in a Lagg-3 that was shot to shit. All my control surfaces were destroyed except for my rudder, so I had to fly back from the front and land using only rudder and power.
I walked a little taller that day.

I'm a big fan of Space Flight Simulation so I have a joystick. Unfortunately I'm left handed so most of the cool ones weren't an option. As a kid I could fly with both hands. I tried a while back and just couldn't. Regardless this is my Joystick and while it IS a Saitek I've never had a single problem with it. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AW9RE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Note that I don't use a joystick in this game because it used to cause crashes if you had an extra device plugged in. I guess that has been fully resolved? I'll put with keyboard controls but I won't take no shit from a CTD.

I've had no end of trouble with this stupid Joystick of mine. The plug-and-pray is precisely what the name suggests. It's a nightmare to get support for it. I've almost returned it to the manufacturer two times, both times it suddenly started to work again; abruptly.
Saitek was a name I trusted, but their merger with Madcatz...well, nothing that uses a Z instead of an S should be taken seriously.

Btw, no luck with the hat on this particular joystick. I can open the map, but hitting the button again doesn't close it. I have to reach over and hit esc several times. Similar results for look left or right. I also crashed a few times learning that I appear to accidentally hit the hat while going for my weapon switch button.

Looks like you do lose something with the sensitivity below 1.000000. After moving that back to 1.050000 I could unroll a mosquito in the warpgate. Couldn't at 1.000000.

I was wrong about the sensitivity and being able to unflip in the warpgate or something changed. Can't unflip with the joystick on any settings now. Tried horizontal stability and dogfighting airframes. Weird.

Yeah, they haven't done anything useful on joysticks in a while. It's a real shame.

There is an ESF update in the works, allegedly. Rumors suggest long-term planning (1-2 months out). Amongst other things, joystick support is "on the wishlist."

I want joystick support, better Vehicle FOV AND TrackIR. They should have had them all in the beginning

Some time ago, I recall someone (no idea who now) avoiding using a Logitech joystick because it wasn't supported by the Logitech gaming software any longer. Now that I'm using a Logitech mouse, I see what they were talking about. The current "Logitech Gaming Software" doesn't detect nor work with the Extreme 3d Pro. However, the download site will still give you version 5.10 for that joystick. I have both versions installed here with no apparent problems.
I do hope we get a rework of the ps2 joystick support sometime soon. I'm starting to even fly with the mouse sometimes. Not really.

Higby has said they want it, but it has to be pretty low priority right now considering everything.
