I was watching Mattiace steal the title to one of my shitty piloting guides and couldn't help thinking to myself - that looks a lot like the stuff I routinely see from the cockpit of my mosquito. So, after nearly a year of making fun of you-tubers, I decided I might start recording some of my play. I promptly purchased a 1TB hard-drive (I was running out of space anyway if my wife asks) which will arrive in 3 days. I've never paid any attention to streaming or recording and I know some of you guys do that kind of thing. I've started looking into OBS (because free) and it doesn't look all that complicated, but I was hoping people who do this sort of thing might point me in the right direction or give some tips. Also, what is this new-fangled twitch TV you kids talk about?

I kinda started recording a few months ago. Once I realized the amount of editting required to make stuff not look like shit (i was going to do tutorials), I kinda stopped. Best of luck to you.

Yeah, editing is another thing I'll need to do. For it to be a proper you tube video you've gotta edit out all your deaths and lag-time between kills. If I'm lucky I'll be able to get the editing software on my work computer and mess with it during the day.
Still, I can't wait to set the next skywatch video to some good ol' Ke$ha...

If you're using Nvidia Geforce card, they have shadowplay and instant stream to twitch, it gives you much less performance hit compared to using OBS because it records from the GPU, not CPU. For editing, sony vegas pro or adobe premiere pro i think are 2 of the popular software

I do have shadowplay - I'll take a look at that. I was under the impression it only records for 20 minutes, but I may be mistaken in how that actually works.
Edit: Yeah, in "shadow" mode it records the last 20 minutes. In manual mode it's unlimited recording.

Asking some PS2 youtubers might help a lot too, would suggest you to PM wrel or moukass to have more insight into this

I recorded ops last night using shadow play. I had frame rates anywhere from 120+ at high altitude to 45 at some of the more massive fights, no problems with performance. Took up 40 gigs of space. It's saving as *.mp4. Going to have to comb through it and cut out a lot of the crap.
I'm starting to see why most youtube videos are 1-3 minute cuts of kills...

Just a few ideas on content: General overview(How to play, what's important, basic theory on perpetual warfare), Class Introductions(Job duties, Best loadouts, cert suggestions), Welcome to TXR(Basic introduction to how we roll, Various command structures, common tactics, e.g. MAX Crash)
On a more personal note, I think it's dope that someone wants to do this, and that it may serve to help better prepare new players and players new to TXR for acclimation and integration onto the battlefield. Best of luck!

What's the outfits policy on streaming during things like Wednesday Night OPs and other events? Any times that we should not be doing streaming or making videos to be published online?

As far as I know, there aren't any established outfit protocols, but some rules of thumb that I use:
If you're going to be recording someone's voice, ask their permission. Indicate to the PL or a general that you are streaming an op and ask permission; sometimes they may ask for a delay to prevent stream-sniping. Don't stream competitive practices unless specifically asked to do so. Don't make practice recordings public unless specifically asked to do so.

Hey Mags, I would actually like to work with you on video content. If we can agree to an Editor to use, it would be pretty easy to work with you on recording content and making videos out of them. I really really really badly want to make a Skywhale video but on my own time it seems incredibly difficult.
