(TL:DR I think we need a support group for support classes at some level of our outfit structure.)
So, we are all aware that infantry is the back-bone of TXR and PS2. Every soldier, whether s/he flies, shoots, drives, or heals/reps is first and foremost an infantryman. And TXR reflects that. With the revamping of TXR ranking and divisions, I'd like to propose a new division: Support. I'm sure it has been talked about in times past, as a newer member I can't possibly know, but I feel as though this is a time in which such things could/should be brought up.
As I understand it, specialty divisions are moving from separate entities within the outfit into a specialization within the general infantry of the outfit*, which makes a fantastic opportunity to bring the support classes used in every operation into a well-trained, specified floater group. Frequently, I have noticed, the modus operandi of our various events demand a somewhat systematic effort on the parts of the various classes. The MAX Crash, for instance, demands specific qualities, and is yet, at its' core, completely an infantry tactic.
Perhaps what I'm thinking of is probably better suited as a sub-division within Ground Pounders, and that's really up to Those On High. Still, I feel that those of us in the outfit who play a very heavily support-oriented game end up losing out on the types of training/events/leadership that many other facets of the outfit enjoy. As an example, we have guides on infantry maneuvers, flying, assault tactics for various locations, cert guides for the best vehicle combinations, but no guide on battlefield triage for medics, or a to-rep list for enjis. Granted, these are things that any player can reason out for themselves, but so are the other things we have active support for. Well-p, that's it: Medics, Infiltrators, and Engineers are people too!
Thanks for taking the time to read, ~DocFry
*If this is an untrue assumption, please, enlighten me.

1. No 2. Waist of energy and time 3. This has been debated and squashed. Support can do the same as assault in ps2 better than assault can on many an occasion. 4. This goes hand in hand with infantry play giving its own division benefits no one.

The way I see is that I pull out assault/support depending on the roles that are needed since they can all kill at the same pace as each other.
Heavy Assault: There is a tank far away Light Assault: There is a tank far away or I see some Maxes or I want to be a douche and smoke grenade Engineer: We have a max. There is a tank far far away. There is a doorway for my AI turret. MAX: I need to crash through something Combat Medic: I need certs. People are dying and our spawn is far away. I need to keep up a push.

That being said DocFry, if you are looking for guidance please do not feel discouraged for asking for tips and tricks involving support classes. There is already a wealth of useful information on youtube, but if want a personal opinion, always feel free to ask on TS.

There is already a wealth of useful information on youtube, but if want a personal opinion, always feel free to ask on TS. My sentiments exactly. We don't bite... at least not hard. Back when the specialty divisions had more purpose, maxes were a part of the ground pounders (I remember being detailed to the care of two or three burster maxes one OPs night). Back then, we could push a front with heavy armor supported by air and infantry. Not so much anymore. Our specialty as an outfit has become lightning strikes against the enemy where it hurts the most. Quick, organized redeploys to the opposite side of the map rendered the Armored Division moot. Nerfs to the harasser rendered the Roadrunners moot. As the game changes, so do our tactics. Yesterday, Dece (I think, may have been FortySix) made an excellent point. Used to, at least one person would remain with a Sundy to maintain its security and armor. Now, we just jump out and run for the point leaving the most important part of our movement unguarded and vulnerable. This was always the job of an engineer, if not the owner of the vehicle. That being said, support classes have their roles pretty well laid out. Medics revive. Engineers repair and rearm infantry with much needed ammo, take care of armor with mines and AV turrets, and lay down suppressive fire with AI turrets. There are many good videos on Youtube regarding loadouts and basics of roles and "guides" by members on the forums. Not to mention, the help of your fellow Recoil soldier.

Here's my priorities: Engineer: Pretty much always. Never run out of ammo, I prefer vehicular manslaughter, MAXes get into way too much trouble. Light Assault: First response on a small base defense to move quickly and approach the flag from unconventional directions, Biolab defense if resources are low or the enemy is tightly packed trying to advance or are massed on the flags. Medic: If I was purchasing more C4 and accidentally respawned as one. Heavy: No resources for a MAX and playing airspace denial. Infiltrator: Some fucking asshole is sneaking around our base and I can't find him. MAX: Biolab defense and air defense. Haven't had the kind of battle that favors fractures in like over a month.

Swatz being the leader of Ground Pounders gets final say, his word is law and all that... But with that said...
IMO fuck all those reasons there's only 2 reasons why you can't do a Support group:
A). We don't want to water down the divisions when it's impractical to only role X class/vehicle the entire ops because we encounter so many situations where we need to bring all the classes, MAX Crash excluded.
2). Absolutely no one in leadership was willing to organize and manage such a support group, we were all busy with other things or just not interested.
Now with that pointed out -IF- You are still interested in organizing, managing and basically getting your foot in the door then by all means you can start up your own Squad within the outfit but you have to be realistic about some facts:
- First and foremost you need to approve this with Swatz.
- This Support Group would exist within the Ground Pounders and subject to all rules applied to the Ground Pounders.
- During Ops nights you will -NOT- get your own squad of pure support but rather your support squad would be spread out to all squads, bringing with them the training and experience learned through the Support Group.
- As far as formal training and ops concerning your support squad, You will have to set-up a ops night outside of pre-existing scheduled nights.
- You wouldn't get your own Forum section to talk support strategy, tactics, and loadouts until High Command in TXR sufficiently see's effective results from your training program.
Assuming all of that doesn't intimidate you, that's what you need to do in order to get your own Support Group Squad going. Our Competitive Team can learn how to maximize there support roles, MAX Crashes can be polished by teaching people the Engineer/Medic pros and cons, and we can polish our ability to keep Sunderer's up or people supported during Tech-Plant or classic Amp-Station assaults on A point w/o dedicated Spawn.
Have at it hoss!

I'll take Swatz's "No." at face value, so far as an official branch of Ground Pounders is concerned, though the amount of support for small-scale training and flow of information is very reassuring, and I thank you gentlemen for your input.
Hereticus, -IF- I were to seriously consider doing something like that, I'd be more apt to set it up as a New Member squad for training and induction to outfit maneuvers, overall class introduction, and, generally, for players new to PS2, though that would require it to also be a recruitment squad, and that's probably a different can of beans as is. ...And also that I'd have to have some clue as to what the actual fuck I was doing, but that's a separate issue. Maybe I'll revisit this at a later time when I feel more comfortable with the changing mechanics both within the game and the outfit, and have more skill and experience with facets of what I would be trying to address.
"Flexibility" seems to be the name of the game, so I'll start there and see what I end up with.

Get with Swatz on this. A big part of ground pounders, if I'm not mistaken, was to help train the new guys in infantry play and the uses of the various classes in planetside with the intention of building specialists and experts. I know he's super busy with school - I'm certain he'll be interested in getting some enthusiastic help with getting his Ground Pounders going again. Even if it doesn't fall under the umbrella of our infantry specialists, a new member training program is a fantastic idea. If you're truly interested in this we'll make sure you get the support you need to help you implement and manage it.

The training thing will be under watch of some select Drill Sergeants that I will ask eventually to become. They will be the guys who help keep the outfit trained ready and prepared for any situation.
The infantry I'm hoping anyway will be as simple as a jack of as many trades possible. For instance I can play LA, HA, Medic and MAX fairly well each of them I know for the most part the ins and out's yada yada yada not important. What I'm lacking in is Infiltrator and Engineer.
The ultimate goal is to get as many people in terms that relate to this. "Literate in as many languages as possible" if literate is competence and language is classes but I digress.
I'm almost done filling out the last parts of the GP special it's just I have a vision of what I want it to be I just need to stop being lazy and write it down. I have like 95% of it done in a note book just gathering dust. I have a dummies guide to nearly everything in my large binder/book thing I just need to type it and fine the time to type it.
And no scanning is out of the question for my handwriting looks like shit. Honestly a 5th grader probably has better print hand writing than I do but hot damn do I pull a bitchen curvy script.

Ah, this sounds more and more as though it falls under a great piece of advice my dad gave me: A joke is 10% funny and 90% timing. If you have a funny joke that has terrible timing, you will have 0 laughs.
On a less joking note, it seems that the thing for me to do, then, is to put myself at Swatz's disposal. And you can consider that done.
*Afterthought* Did I just promote myself to Lackey?
