There was popular demand for me to upload this, both so people can share it with others, and because it was hard to watch over stream in the laggy real-time render window of my video editor, so here's a profoundly shitty quality render of it I did.
Stay tuned to this thread for the final cuts!
For the record and posterity, below is the entirety of the prompt given by me to my fellow leaders. From the videos they sent back, I assembled what you see here.
This is pretty short notice, but whatever, you all have phones that can take video. Sorry I didn't post sooner, this has been the worst week to be me in a good while.
I'm going to throw together a "Faces of Leadership" TXR birthday video. It's going to feature all of us jointly reading the following prepared statement, and eating cake. Yes, the REAL you. Take a video of yourself reading this, then eating cake. It'd be nice to personalize things a bit, no?
"[greeting of choice], TXR! I'm/this is [your name], wishing everyone at TXR a [*happy birthday/anneversary greeting*]. It's been a great year for us in leadership. We've had some AWESOME moments, especially [your favorite moment of the year]. Here's to another year of [your favorite ass kicking method]."
And as soon as you're done speaking, pause 2 seconds, then take a bite of cake. If you don't have cake, get some, or shit, just use a donut with a candle in it or something.
So, here's what you need to do.
To fit the editing, which will be cutting between different speakers quickly, your answers must be short. Don't tell a story, just say something like "That clutch save on camera at SOE Live" or "Publicly stomping the Devil Dogs". Nothing much longer than that. For your "favorite ass kicking method", put whatever you want, but try to mane it in "Something and Something" format. If you're a pro at something specific, put that. For example, Talron might say, "Here's to another year of headshots with shotguns", Hereticus might be "Tanking and flanking", swatz might go with "C4 and mayhem". (Feel free to use those.)
Either upload the video to something where I can download it, e.g., Dropbox or Youtube, or e-mail it to me at sllewgh@hotmail.com.
Some suggestions from a guy with a couple years filmmaking experience:
-SPEAK SLOWLY AND DELIBERATELY.
-Fill in those blanks first. Don't try to do it on the fly, write it all out first. If you do it as you go along, you WILL look stupid and awkward on film.
-Try to center yourself in the shot. The Rule of Thirds is a very simple and effective film making trick, use it for this. Center yourself around one of those points, preferably with your head framed at the top.
-Make sure there's good lighting! Natural lighting is the best, so do it near a window or outside. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT PUT A LIGHT SOURCE BEHIND YOU WHEN YOU FILM.
-No background noise, or keep it to a minimum. Find someplace quiet, and if you do it outside, do it where there's no wind.
-And SPEAK SLOWLY AND DELIBERATELY.
I'll do the rest. Thanks, guys!
Within these guidelines, you have creative freedom. If we all do it a bit differently, that's whats going to make it cool.
