facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1323414Seems interesting. The gist of it is, the server is PvE most of the day, then every day at 18:00GMT it goes PvP for 3 hours. So, you spend all day gathering resources in relative safety to prepare for the anarchy and chaos during the scheduled PvP time. Problem is, 18:00GMT is 1pm EST, so the timing of the PvP doesn't work out for me, but if there were ever a U.S. version of the server, I'd like to play on it. Adding that order to the chaos to me, seems like it would take out some of the most frustrating elements of the game (being KOS'd by some bambi who found a shotgun, being fucked with by a kevlar mob before you can even get started, ect.) while adding structure to the fun parts- you can prepare with a siege mentality, actually form plans of attack for a specific target, and so on.

I have been reading up on the rust forums...very interesting community reaction to recent changes. The whole server issues though for me is the problem. Until rust gets to the stage where you can run a server with he same control as a gmod/minecraft/opensim server you are going to be beholden to others visions of the game. Which is great if they align with yours. rust is very alpha and I expect it to mature to the point where you can run it like many other game server. The siege mentality idea would be great, you could set your server time to correlate with the schedule of those who play on your server, schedule of events around the siege hours.
What I like about rust is the potential to run consistent community driven spaces. I hope that when the servers are available we can do something with that.
