wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=HistoricI'm really interested to start getting into Historical Battles. I'm looking to put together a team composed of a single nationality that will learn to fly closely together as a pair of 2 plane elements. Historical Battles are very different from Arcade Battles. Highlights as follows: 1. 1 plane per pilot - no more dying and pulling more planes. 2. No mixed nationalities on teams. 3. No flight model boost like in Arcade, planes are harder to fly. 4. No more starting in the air - you must learn to take off. 5. No more reloading in the air - you must learn to land safely. 6. Rewards are about 4 times greater than Arcade, but repairs cost more. 7. HB is a team game - lone pilots are meat. 8. Maps are much larger. 9. More closely tied to the ground forces. Hitting the right targets at the right times can be decisive. 10. Must manage both ammunition and Fuel. No more setting your throttle to 100% for the entire game. Currently I'm looking at running American planes for HB. They tend to be heavier, better armored, and carry plenty of ammo. The lack of cannons is less of a problem than in Arcade. They benefit greatly from team tactics, as well, which is a plus.

I am down to learn with you guys. I prefer to be in a bomber but American bombers are a little too clunky for my taste so if we decide to go US then I may got fighter.

I'll fly in HB. I used to fly HB's when I was still a member of the 24th MEU Tactical Realism group. They can be a lot of fun but if the team doesn't coordinate you will lose quickly.

Cool!
I agree about the early war American bombers, however I think a flight of SBDs, Avengers, or A-20's could do a lot of nasty shit on the ground - those are rank 4/5, however. Before that, fighters are probably the way to go for sure.

Let me know when you're doing it. Americans are much easier to fly with other american planes.
Coming from the the Japanese planes, though, you're in for a rough ride.

4-7 will be the worst. Once you get the Airacobras, things get tolerable. I like the P-40, but when it's the "best" plane in your hangar, things are rough.

Idk, I rather enjoy the american planes. I'm just really disappointed with their bombers and lack of them. Russian bombers spoil me.

Yeah, the Americans just never fielded the light bombers that are appropriate in low tiers. When we did shit, we did it right. Up in the later tiers, you'll have the best bombers of the war. The 25's, 17's, and 24's were great. I also think they are planning to add the 29's which were really cool, too.

One thing I've noticed about HBs is that they are more likely to be simple death matches than actual objective games. It's odd that the arcade mode ends up being more focused on the ground objectives than the HBs.

It is because of the limited respawns. By limiting respawn, it is more important to take out the enemy planes than the tanks below.

Something occurred to me today and I thought I'd share it with the group.
There is no reason for us to expect that our success in Arcade should instantly translate to dominating in Historical Battles.
For myself, I typically feel let down when I get into an HB and only get 1 or 2 kills before dying - or worse, no kills. Coming from Arcade where it is easy to get 4 or even 10 kills in a match (some as high as 20), it can be discouraging not to completely dominate in a historical fight.
Approaching the historical like we would approach an entirely new game is going to go a long way towards helping us cope. We may go many many games with loses or no kills. Simply flying HB's the way we fly arcade will not cut it. We're going to have to learn to win all over again.
That said, I think it'll be a really fun challenge. It is very rewarding to get kills in HB and I think when we get a 4-man group up to par and starting to dominate, we'll have achieved something we can be really proud of.

How about getting all those that want to fly HB's regularly and then fly with/against each other in custom matchs at HB level. Good practice to learn how to maneuver the planes and stay alive.

That pretty much leaves mondays then. Wednesday, thursday, and friday are big nights for the PS2 players.
