With the reboot of Spec Ops, the aftermath of our first Community Clash, and the specific requests by Command, I would like to introduce the New Pilot Initiative.
What?
Starting a few times a week there are going to be set opportunities for players to learn to fly with Skywatch and the TTA air. A major barrier to new pilots is often the enemy aces will take down our rookies before they get a chance to learn. It is frustrating and a lot of people give up when the resources run low and your timer is on cooldown.
The only way to learn to fly is to put the time in to do it.
In that light, we will be directing skywatch vets to team up with the rookies to protect them and help train them. The air fight is a very different game than the ground fight. Charging in, guns blazing, is not always a great idea when your death costs more than a few seconds and a respawn at the closest sunderer.
Who?
All TxR players are invited to come to as many of these events as possible. For the new guys, this is an opportunity to learn some new skills and play with some great people. For the vets, this is an opportunity to add some depth to TxR's abilities as an outfit. For the competitive players, this is going to make or break the team in the current competition environment. For Skywatch vets, this is a call to get back in the air and share what we know with the rest of the outfit.
When?
Starting next week, you will have at least 3 opportunities a week to fly and train with the Skywatch during live ops.
Wednesday nights - Fly with the full TTA air wing. TTA boasts many of the best TR pilots on the server; flying with these folks has been an excellent experience for me, personally.
Thursday nights @ 7:30 pm PST - Focused training with Skywatch. As close to 1 on 1 instruction as can be managed. This will depend heavily on supply and demand, but will focus specifically on things the trainee would like to cover. Want to learn to fly a liberator? Want to practice gunning a liberator? Want to learn the secret of not dying in a mosquito? We can teach you what we know.
Friday Nights - During the regular FNO, apply what you've learned and fly with Skywatch as we support TxR ground forces.
Any other time - If you see another TxR pilot in game, ask to fly with them. Buddy up and practice what you've learned. Skywatch veterans are being asked to be on the lookout for these requests during the evenings and to help the rookies learn.
Spec ops applicants and members are being strongly encouraged to make use of these opportunities. While we do not require you to play at certain times, part of your duties as the competitive players is to learn the skills required for the team to succeed. The importance of air superiority cannot be understated.
Everyone wearing a Skywatch badge is further encouraged to actively participate in as many of these events as possible. Your participation is vital to the success of this training initiative.
Again, the New Pilot Initiative will start in earnest next week; first op to be Wendesday night, 10/15/2013. If you are able to start participating earlier, TTA air ops are going on tonight as usual (I will be late to this, as usual).
I hope to see you all in the skies at one time or another as we have some fun, kick some ass, and learn to fly.
