I love this video for several reasons but the overarching one idea...Narrative. Watching the replay of our match last night I was ...frankly...bored by the second half. If there was narrative...if the story of the scrappy TXR finally getting a shot to play in these types of competitions was told, maybe a little about the training we went thru, maybe some back story on the Whales....some history of the Battle Islands, why so few folks have played on them which would dovetail into the whole mishigas of SOE and the woes of evening having this universe to play in.....Any of that would have kept me longer than saying for the 100th time that air was key and the a base was being hacked..no wait its being hacked back...no that hack was hacked....
Do not get me wrong, the Clash guys are 100% better than the MLG casters...the Clash guys know the game , can talk about it intelligently, they are just cooler froods than the MLG caster....
...and this is not just PS2 casting I am talking about. When I think about which game vidcasters I go back to again and again...it is the ones that can cast a narrative...historic, personal, technological...onto what the game they are casting.
Which makes me ask...what is TxR's narrative...what is your narrative inside of TxR.
Yea, seriously...t is so much more than bullet drop off and base mechanics.

IMO ever sense Lan-Party's Video Games as a Sport is a growing phenomenon that is potentially going to snowball or go the way of NASCAR if it hasn't already.
The biggest thing that would be slowing down or holding back the whole E-Sports scene is the lack of standardization... Some multiplayer games have options to support a growing MLG or Competitive community in the game, most however don't.
IMO some of the biggest things that need to be standardized for any Multiplayer game that is attempting to take itself seriously is..
-Observer Cam for Referees and Hosts. -Leaderboards to track game/player stats. -Leagues to give the whole thing structure so you know where your favorite rank.
I don't think we've yet seen the golden age of Video Games both as a hobby and as a Sport... The way tech is constantly advancing I genuinely hope to survive and see what video games will be like in 100 years.

Every saturday me and a few friends always get together on Skype to enjoy Starcraft2 Tournys on Twitch.tv, I get pretty excited and scream at the screen about bad or surprising maneuvers and strategies... Beyond that I also follow a Dawn of War2 tournament series this one guy organizes for the Dawn of War community

I like the idea of 'getting together' and watching starcraft. Like the console that is now super popular versus desktops because of many reasons but mainly because it is more social than pc's. Sitting down to play the pc isn't the same as laying back on the couch or being with a bunch of friends in front of a tv. Also because of various others reasons (among my own view being possibly incorrect, I mean there are many reasons).
I definitely think counter strike hit a home run with its free look (floating camera)/ first person view/ scoreboard of all playere years ago. That is the core of what is at fault in planetside 2. We need to be able to see what each player is doing, who's owning the shit out of the match, who's sucking but is actually good because we see its a known pro, what are the pros saying in voip or in-game mic, maybe a webcam to see their personal reactions and to remember their face even.
If we are on a computer and have this huge set of input devices then that should totally be exploited as well. Think of the first counter strike spectator server had chat so everyone can talk but be in game and choose their own person to view in first person of our own choice and free look as well. If there's one huge advantage the pc has it's that anyone can change/mod some of the software at a fraction of what it takes the cable networks to do so and that we have a keyboard/mouse/voice and more to make it everything we ever wanted.
Google hangout makes me think, maybe some sort of lobby and more communication between spectators could be good as well.
