A little over a year ago I installed a Windows partition on my main rig for the first time in years...many years...so that I could play PS2. Over the last year I have gotten a bit more into games than I had previously...but sadly Steve Balmer was my copilot. This weekend I had to rejigger a few computers in my house and my main rig has gone from a mostly Windows sort of Linux machine back to being a mostly Linux and Windows only for a few games machine.
One of the reasons I could do this and not feel a game addicts twitch is due in large part to Steam and its making game devs see the error of not going cross platform. Fully 1/3 of the games I have in my Steam library are working under Linux with more coming over. Many of the titles I have Kickstarted are slatted for *nix versions.
This is not a Wine thing, though that is still an option for some games. These are full on ports.
Minecraft, Crusader Kings II, TF2, Garrys Mod, Guns of Icarus, Natural Selection2, CS, DoD, Awesomenauts, SS3, Kerbal Space....done done and done.
PS2...still the reason to keep the ever shrinking windows partition.
So yea, thanks Steam..I am back to a sane OS again near full time.
Anyone else going this route...first time...again..?
