Looks interesting but I think it would be more fun with a private server to avoid what appears to be a massive KOS gankfest on the single alpha server.

I'm currently running a GMOD server, and I'd be happy to run this as well. I've got the internet connection for it.
Unfortunately, it seems to be closed alpha. I'm gonna investigate keys tomorrow.

I enjoy Gmod Theater from time to time with some of my friends - it's like multiplayer youtube. The server is set up like a giant multi-screen theater complete with popcorn (to throw). Users can go into a public room and queue up youtube videos.
There are some rooms that do full movies.
It is as close to the internet of Snow Crash as I've ever encountered.

I actually just installed Gmod Cinema on my dedicated server last night! I plan to host a TXR movie night!

Yep, we tested a few maps for the Cinema mod on Pencil's server last night and it was a Bob damn hoot. Close to Snowcrash...yep....all we need now are good cheap Oculous Rifts:)-

Hey, everybody! Guess what? I'm reviving a dead thread from June! Why, you ask? Because of developments on the topic at hand! You can now purchase keys to get into the alpha build of the game. This is like Minecraft in that buying in early will get you in for life. The system for this is rather interesting. They've got a dutch auction going- the price keeps dropping until all the keys are sold. At first the price started at 240$ and dropped to zero over the course of the day. Recently, it was 60$ to start for 10 keys an hour. Just as I was telling Tom about this, I happened to notice the auction change to 30$ to start for 256 keys an hour. I got lucky that I happened to be there for that transition, and I scored my key for 4$. I normally don't recommend buying a game in alpha- you don't have any idea what you're actually purchasing. You're just buying a dream. That warning still stands here, but this is from Garry Newman, the creator of Garry's Mod, the game that to date I have sunk more time into than any other, including Planetside (currently 700+ hours). So, I've got my reasons for buying in. Garry is a cool dude who I've interacted with personally. He's got a great knack for knowing when to listen to the community, and importantly, when not to. I'm going to be streaming this game from time to time, or on request, and I'd be happy to show it to anyone that doesn't want to buy it themselves yet for whatever reason. I think this has potential to be a great game for a community like ours.
