After seeing some stuff on the YouTube about the flight model update for the Lightning, I decided to take her out in some RB with my new stick. Tested the stall characteristics in a test flight for about 30 mins before I took her into battle. She likes to dip a wing in the dirty and clean configurations. In power off stalls, she'll dip a wing and recover after about 2 rotations of applying rudder and down elevator to counter the ensuing spin. In power on stalls, it's the same recovery because the speeds are the same for the power off stalls. It should be, so at least that's right. I attempted some high speed, or accelerated stalls, by performing some tight turns at around 2000m. The stall characteristics in this situation are worse than before 1.39. These are difficult to recover from and take anywhere from 4-6 rotations before the aircraft will recover. Ok, so stay away from accelerated stalls you say. Took her out into a RB. Did my initial climb up to 4000m. There was an FW 190 above and to my left. Once he started his dive, I waited till he was about 1 click out, keeping him to my 9 o'clock, to begin my maneuvers. I began with a diving turn to my left to hopefully screw up his shot, and it did. I held my turn to hopefully come up on his 6 and this is where things got nasty. In my haste to get on his tail before he came back around, I applied a little more back pressure to tighten my turn. Well, it was a bit too much and into the accelerated stall I went. Power to idle, left rudder to counter the spin to the right, and down elevator to break the stall. She didn't recover. Tried everything I could think of after she had dropped about 1000m. Maybe she'll respond in the thicker air down low? Nope! She would not recover, and didn't recover despite my efforts. Lesson to be learned here, for any stick flyers, stay away from tight turns at speeds over 200mph at high altitude in a P-38. You'll crash and burn in a spin of death.
By the way, the X-55 Rhino is a beast HOTAS.
Below are documented evidence of the stall characteristics of the P-38 with the last video being what we have in game.
