Just to give you guys a heads up, Command is currently looking at some pretty big changes coming down the pipe. It is looking like a lot of really positive stuff, but things are going to change for the specialty divisions.
For our part, we're going to be implementing new requirements that will go along with wearing your wings. The Skywatch badge is going to indicate something more than that you just applied to skywatch. We're talking about requirements which show competency with a given specialty (air, armor, infantry, etc) and requirements for maintaining that specialist status. The original idea for relaxing requirements was to remove barriers for entry and cultivate a wider member-base. Well, now we've got a wider member-base, the majority of which are routinely MIA or off doing other things.
The details are still being worked out, so don't panic about anything, but we are going to start implementing some requirements that we'll all have to meet if we want to keep wearing our wings.
Personally, I think this is going to be a positive move. There are some people who are part of Skywatch on paper but rarely if ever show up to anything we do. There isn't really anything wrong with that, except maybe people should be active if they want to claim to be a part of something.
Talron has also requested that we start indicated whether we are going to be available for friday night ops before friday night. It would really help him to be able to know what assets he's going to have available when he's planning for the OP. I'm going to start putting a sign-up thread up so that we can start doing this for him. I'm also going to start working to cultivate several squad leaders so that we all have some coverage in case an individual has some real life responsibilities that will prevent them from making an op. It is a waste for us not to have access to what Skywatch can do for the outfit just because one guy can't make the op. I think we offer too much for us to just be a fourth infantry squad on nights like those.
So, we've got some good changes on the horizon. Feel free to PM me with question or concerns. As always, I'm working for you guys and representing Skywatch member's interests in the leadership.
