Honestly I'm just being nitpicky in that seeing ranks out of order gnaw at my OCD. That and I LOATHED the few butter bars I served under. For some reason a year of experience and getting promoted to 1LT seemed to make them useful. Or less annoying anyway.
I also agree with Mags that the WO<Warrant Officer> rank is very fitting for the Champion rank.
As for NCO I'd argue that SSGT<Staff Sergeant> (three chevrons with one rocker) or SFC<Sergeant First Class> (three chevrons with two rockers) is more fitting as there is (normally) only one 1SG (First Sergeant) per unit with three chevrons, three rockers and the central diamond like Mags linked.
OCD aside I think this has been a great addition to the outfit and I have high hopes that SOE impliments more ranks so we can utilize it in game as well.

It's important to have these insignia squared away properly. We want to appeal to Adult Gamers and among Adult Gamers are vets and military buffs. Having the right insignia now, appeals to such audiences and works to our advantage as a Outfit and Gaming Community.

Good point, the icons also have to translate well for the non-military guys. Also some icons dont translate well when shrunken down the 16x16 pixels. I will play with all the ideas everyone offered here.

Maybe change the champion insignia to the commissar hat, or maybe a green beret. I think that would go over better than the colonel one right now. (even though it looks cool as it is.)

You are missing my super awesome elite bad-assery penguin slayer rank still. I also want an icon of a penguin holding a chainsaw standing atop a skull

I know there are quite a few vets and active military within and also people who are versed in military rank structures. I'm actually ok with the COL rank being used as champion, since we don't have a COL rank within our structure. The COL insignia, being an eagle, is befitting of a champion. The simplest of fixes for this could be, as I mentioned before, calling it a "Junior Officer". My only issue with the structure, as it stands, is that the "NCO" rank insignia is what is associated as the most junior officer in all services within the US Armed Forces. I know somebody above mentioned using the 1SG rank, but as there is usually only 1 First Sergeant per company, maybe the Master Sergeant rank, which is the 1SG rank without the diamond, could work as well.

May I submit for your consideration the USMC Chief Warrant Officer 5's rank insignia? The bursting bomb is the symbol of an Infantry Weapon's Officer, and there are very, very few of them. Jordanrinke you didn't get demoted, we reset the rank system to be more fair. All you have to do is go to the outfit rank advancement board and apply for your next rank.
Sorry about the confusion to those who haven't been on in the last couple weeks.

If I was a specialist, and I am not a trooper. I got demoted, re-org or not, technically that is accurate.. or I guess you could say, everyone else got promoted? Either way. I don't care, it just made me chuckle.

Yeah more like everyone got promoted because of the rank changes. We just changed the meaning of specialist rank and made it so people actually have a "specialty" that obtain that rank. .
But like I said the rank advancement application is simple enough and removes the problem of bias that the leaders could of had when issuing ranks. We love you Jordanrinke and you have my personal recommendation for specialist rank.

Well, I don't want it if you are just giving them away, I mean you said *everyone* got promoted, how special is that?

So... if we were specialist rank before this, do we keep it or do we need to re-apply for specialist?

So, a question, as someone who can't make FNO because of time difference/work commitments, at least until I go back to uni in September, is it worth applying for the champion rank, or should I just wait until I can start attending FNO again?

An important question to ask yourself before applying for rank is why?
Why? Why do you want this rank?
Then be very honest with yourself. Do you feel like you are deserved this rank? Outfit ranking is not a xbox achievement. There are no points here. An accumulation of ranks and prestige mean exactly shit in this outfit, unless you are honest with yourself about the responsibilities. Just because you squad lead when no leadership is around, does not mean you are entitled to be an officer. Next time you apply for a promotion, consider your impact on the outfit. TXR is only as great as its upper membership, and your contribution means a lot. Don't half-ass it.
“Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.” - Ron Swanson
