My least favorite vehicle, the Mosquito, I finally started gearing it out, check me on what I have, yay/nay?
Utility: Decoy Flares Max Defense: Stealth Max Performance: Hover Max
Primary: Rotary basic w/ Zoom Secondary: Tomcats basic w/ Max Lock-On
Going for a air superiority fighter.
Thoughts?

Air superiority
Fire suppression
Nano Repair
Hover
Rotary/w Ammo upgrade thermals because situational awareness is more important than zooming
Lock-on's Eh: Gives you away to quickly. Ace's dodge them like nothing. If you do use them go with lock on time.
Thrusters or pods work
and If you do pods go with ammo because hitting a lib with 16 rockets is something to fear
A final not NEVER USE ZOOM.

ya exactly what Swatz said. You just need to learn to dodge lock-ons instead of using flares. Many times if you are being locked on by the ground, flares will either not always work or they will just wait for you to pop and fire more AA rockets.

it occurs to me that we should make a distinction between "air superiority" and "I'm only here to dogfight" roles.

Now that I'm at a keyboard, I'll elaborate... nah, you get my meaning.
Yesterday I was about to respond to the original post with at least a recommendation of naninte auto repair over stealth, then I remembered that I used to use stealth all the time and loved it. I don't remember why I quit using it. Maybe it just came time to max out nanite auto repair. So I put stealth back on for last night's flying and loved it again. I got a silly number of kills while attracting little attention. Now I'm planning on sticking with stealth (mostly) for a few days.
Maybe it's time to try fire suppression again, too. Haven't used it much since decoy flares first broke.
Really, it's all good. I even used to make good use of the extra yaw on the dogfighting airframe when I was using a joystick and had analog yaw control.
I'll agree zoom on a rotary is silly.
Tomcats are worthwhile just for the hate tells.

since he's using tomcat, zoom is alright for rotary and stealth blends in well too with A2A.

Flares vs fire suppression is a worthwhile discussion - I'll probably carry flares until I'm 100% successful on missile dodging. I've killed too many people simply because I carried tomcats and they didn't have flares.
Zoom on the rotary seems like a waste to me, I'd stick with thermal. Sometimes it's nice to be able to pick off infantry with the rotary and thermals are great for that. Sometimes it makes it easier to track the dark scythes against a dark night too, but it's situational there.
I love nanite and stealth. I've gotten a lot of tells complaining about the fact that I don't show up on the minimap until I start shooting - I've been accused of hacking for that reason. Stealth is great, but in a dedicated air superiority fighter, you aren't taking the kind of plinking damage that ground attackers take. They are both good - I'd say pick whichever you love and fly to the strengths of it.
Hover frame is apparently the way I'll be going since dogfighting doesn't really do much (according to that video I found).
Tomcats are great, imo, especially if you hang back a bit and just double team enemy fighters. It can be really effective to have a few tomcat pilots in the mix. Always lock-on timer over distance though. Aces can dodge the missiles, but it is hard to juggle a dogfight AND dodge the missiles. I always consider tomcats to be the weapon of teamwork. Alone, eh. Mixed into a group? Good.
